Shipping Containers - a Horror Story

Tuesday 27 October 2020 Filed in: General

Happy Halloween! Enjoy our little shipping container horror story with a happy ending. Don't let buying a shipping container turn into a nightmare - avoid getting tricked and turn your shipping container into a treat with a few simple additions that will stop your shipping container looking like a horror show.

Chapter 1. Picture the scene
A used shipping container will have spent many years in the harsh environment at sea, getting battered by waves and probably with many other containers stacked up on top of it. Combine this with rough handling at ports, and a used shipping container will look like it has seen better days. But don't write it off! Shipping containers are structurally built to withstand sea journeys and by the time they retire and become land storage containers, although they might look rough with rust spots, scrapes and dents, this damage should be purely cosmetic. Choose a good coat of marine grade paint for your shipping container and it will be restored to something of its former self.
Chapter 2. Things that go bump in the night
What's the worst nightmare you can think of with your shipping container? We think it's probably getting broken into. All our shipping containers under 40ft come with a steel lockbox fitted, that protects the padlock and makes your container almost impenetrable. Insurance rated padlocks to be used with the lockbox can be purchased with your container at a discounted rate.
Chapter 3. It's damp in here!
Shipping containers are prone to condensation inside, which can make the walls and ceiling look unsightly AND spoil your stored goods if they are of a delicate nature – i.e. furniture, paper goods, cardboard boxes. The solution to this is to have your container ply lined. Not only does it eliminate condensation completely, but the appearance of your container will be transformed to look clean, smart and professional!
Chapter 4. It's dark in here!
What could be more spooky than a dark, empty shipping container? Get some lights inside with one of our electrical packages and you can avoid the fear of the unknown and fumbling around in the darkness altogether.
Chapter 5. My eyes! It burns!
Worried about your shipping container creating an eyesore? Then take a look at wood cladding for shipping containers. If blending in to the surroundings is an issue for your container, then wood cladding wins the prize for best dressed container. With three types of wood as standard to choose from, plus a bespoke matching service, any nightmares surrounding the appearance of a metal box on your property can be overcome.
Chapter 6. Let me in!
Shipping container doors are notoriously hard to use, as they are made from heavy steel with thick corrugations, and have locking arms that may be rusty. A good quality shipping container should still have doors that are useable, but for doors that need to be completely free and easy to use, opt for new flat panel doors. We manufacture these S1 style doors at Containers Direct, to replace the original shipping container doors, at no extra cost. Now there's a happy ending!

The End
