Shipping Container Loading Ramps

Making loading and unloading safer, quicker and easier.

Containers Direct sell a range of container ramps, designed to make loading and unloading safer, quicker and easier. The interior floor of shipping and storage containers is approximately 7 inches from the ground, which can make lifting large or heavy objects into the container difficult. Using a container loading ramp reduces health and safety risks associated with heavy lifting and if moving liquids, the risks of spillage during movement.
Our container ramps provide the perfect solution - they are designed to fit between the corner posts of the container doors to provide ramped access for pallets and forklifts, making light work of loading your container. Our ramps are fabricated in our own workshops, to high standards and we offer three standard designs and sizes for different requirements. Bespoke sizes and designs are also available upon request.

Heavy Duty Container Loading Ramps

We can make ramps to any required size or weight tolerance, however we do have two standard products: a 4ft and an 8ft container ramp. Please note; we design our ramps to fit to the door opening of the container between the corner posts, meaning the width is slightly less than 4ft/8ft.

4ft Container Ramp

Features:

  • Made from heavy duty steel

  • 3 tonne weight tolerance OR 5 tonne weight tolerance

  • 4ft wide* x 4ft long (approx 1219mm x 1200mm)
  • Fully welded Durbar anti-slip plate

  • Gives access to container with one door open

  • Choose from green, blue or black in colour

8ft Container Ramp

Features:

  • Made from heavy duty steel

  • 3 tonne weight tolerance OR 5 tonne weight tolerance

  • 8ft wide* x 4ft long (approx 2438mm x 1200mm)
  • Fully welded Durbar anti-slip plate

  • Gives access with both doors open - load two pallets a time!

  • Choose from green, blue or black in colour

Recommended Modification

Our standard container loading ramps are not designed to be left in situ, but instead moved up against the container as and when required. Particularly for our 8ft container ramps, we would advise that you also choose to have the doors of your container adapted so the ramp can be left in situ; at over 100kgs, they're not the lightest! To achieve this, we remove the bottom 'cam keepers' of the container locking arms so the ramp can be left in place permanently.

Car ramps for sale

We supply ramps for loading cars into shipping containers, whether you need a removable pair of ramps for occasional use or a low level car ramp for regular drive-in access. If you are planning vehicle storage, compare the car ramp options below and see our garage containers and container dimensions guide to help check overall fit.

Standard Car Ramps

Our standard car ramps are a practical option where you want removable vehicle access. Sold as a set of two steel ramps at 6ft long x 1ft wide each, they can be spaced apart to suit different track widths, making them suitable for a wide range of cars and also quad bikes. This style of car ramp is best for occasional use where you want the flexibility to remove the ramps when not needed.

CarTainer Loading Ramp

For regular vehicle access, our heavy duty low level car ramp is designed for garage containers and CarTainer set-ups. With a 5 tonne tolerance and low profile design, this ramp can be left in situ even when opening and closing the container doors, making it the better option for frequent use and smoother drive-in access. For complete vehicle storage options, see our CarTainer garage containers.

Which car ramp is right for you? Choose removable car ramps if you need flexible positioning for different vehicles. Choose a low level ramp if the ramp needs to stay with the container and be used regularly. If you want help matching a car ramp to your container and vehicle, request a Quick Quote with the vehicle type, container size and intended use.

Other container ramps

We make any size ramp to order - please enquire for details. We can also make hinged, fold up ramps, which are particularly suitable for disabled access in a range of container conversions, for example offices, catering and pop-up shops.

All our container ramps come in standard colours of green, blue or black, but can be repainted to any other colour for a small charge.

Car ramp FAQs

Do I need a car ramp to get a car into a shipping container?

In most cases, yes. A shipping container floor sits above ground level, so without a ramp you are dealing with an awkward step up at the door. For occasional use, a removable pair of car ramps is often the simple answer. If you plan to drive in and out regularly, a low level ramp is usually the better fit.

What is the difference between your standard car ramps and the low level CarTainer ramp?

Our standard car ramps come as two separate steel sections. You place them where you need them, use them, then move them away afterwards. The low level CarTainer ramp is more of a permanent set-up. It is designed for regular vehicle access and can stay in place, which makes day-to-day use much easier.

Will your car ramps suit different vehicle widths?

Yes. Because the standard ramps are supplied as two separate pieces, they can be spaced to suit different track widths. That gives you more flexibility than a fixed-width one-piece ramp and makes them suitable for a wide range of cars, as well as quad bikes.

How do you use car ramps with a shipping container?

Set the ramps on firm, level ground and line them up with the vehicle's wheel track before you start loading. Make sure the ramps are properly positioned against the container entrance, then drive up slowly and steadily. For regular use, a low level ramp is usually the easier option. If you are unsure which ramp layout suits your vehicle and container, send us the details through Quick Quote and we can advise.

How do I check whether my car and container will fit properly?

The best place to start is our container dimensions guide, where you can compare internal size and door opening space against your vehicle. If you are looking at a full vehicle storage set-up, also see our garage containers page. For anything less straightforward, send us the vehicle model, container size and intended use through Quick Quote and we can point you towards the most suitable ramp option.
