BUILDING 10ft CONTAINERS FOR STORAGE
Our 10ft containers, designed specifically for storage, are a staple product for us at Containers Direct. As one of the leading companies who specialise in cut-down containers for the storage market, we have perfected the build process over the years and fabricate containers built to last. We don’t cut corners, our 10ft containers are reliable, solid containers designed to provide years of use.
The BuildOur 10ft storage containers are cut down from the standard 20ft or 40ft shipping containers, either from used containers (approximately 10-15 years old), or once-used containers. As such, unless you request the original doors, there will be newly fabricated doors and walls added to the original corrugated ‘tube’.
The WallsAs standard, we use 16 gauge (16mm) corrugated panels for the new wall of the container, to match as closely as possible the original corrugated Corten Steel. These walls may seem thin, but this is the standard thickness of your everyday shipping container, and the corrugation provides all the strength you could need. All of our containers come fully seam welded to ensure no leaks, rather than the traditional method of spot welding and sealing which can cause leaks over time without continual maintenance. For a step-by-step view see our page Shipping Container Wall Build
The DoorsContainers have the option of the original container doors (S2), or newly fabricated doors (S1) at the same price. The S2 door has the original four locking arms, a lockbox, and external seals. However, with used containers, although we ensure the doors are free and easy before they leave the depot, customers can find them stiff to use after their many years of service. Our newly fabricated S1 doors are a favourite among schools, allotments and for domestic storage, where budget constraints mean a used container is the better option, but where easier opening doors are essential. These doors are made with 3mm thick steel to provide security and strength, fitted with a single locking bar and a lockbox. Although these doors don’t come with seals as standard, we offer internal compressed door seals which can be fitted to the inside of the doors if required.
Other door options include the S3 door (a premium self-storage style door which combines the best of both the S1 and S2) and the S4 roller shutter door where access is restricted. For more on all door options see our page on all shipping container doors.
