Shipping Container Conversions 16ft High Cube Container Fitted with 21 Coat Rails
Pricing
What started as an enquiry for a small insulated flat pack store turned into a full container conversion. Loxford School of Science & Technology needed secure, lined storage with a specific internal layout, so we converted a once-used cut-down 16ft high cube container with a CAD-planned coat-rail fit-out and delivered to site in Ilford.
From a 2m flat pack to a 16ft lined container
The enquiry came in for a 2m insulated flat pack store with levelling feet. After further discussion, the scope changed - the school needed secure, lined storage with enough internal wall space for 21 coat rails, that meant changing the project to a once-used 16ft high cube container.
Fitting 21 rails into the available wall space required their positions to be planned before installation. The CAD layout was created to map where each rail would sit and that drawing guided the rest of the interior fit-out.
Design and specification
- 16ft high cube container: The base unit was a once-used high cube container, Starting from 20ft cut-down and converted to 16ft long by 8ft wide container, with an external height of 9ft 6in.
- Doors and security: S1 flat-panel doors were fitted for straightforward day-to-day access, together with a welded lockbox over the external locking point.
- Lining and insulation: The interior was insulated and finished with 9mm plywood lining, giving a clean internal surface ready for the coat-rail fit-out.
- 21 coat rails: The oak-finish coat rails formed part of the fitted interior, with positions mapped in the CAD layout before all 21 were fitted with Toughook XL hooks.
- External finish: The full exterior was resprayed in RAL 5010 blue so the container shell and S1 doors shared one consistent finish.

How the build came together
Once the specification was approved and the purchase order came through, the project moved into production. The container was cut down to 16ft, doors and lockbox fitted, and the full exterior resprayed before interior work began.
Insulation went in first, followed by the plywood lining. The coat rails were the last element fitted, positioned to match the CAD drawing. All 21 were installed and a quality inspection completed before the unit left the depot.
The finished container was loaded for delivery to Ilford on a shared-load HIAB vehicle, matching the agreed specification and lead time.
